We are creatures of habit, and it's easy to get stuck in a rut. And this goes for food too. Sometimes you just get sick of the same-old lunches, and need a bit of culinary inspiration after one too many boring salads. Luckily, there's loads of awesome eateries here in Italy whipping up healthy, vibrant lunches, so for those times when you want something a bit different, check these places out.
If you don't like to stray too far away from the classics, you'll love the dishes served up at Café Menil. Their Caesar Salad – with juicy shredded chicken, tomatoes coated in a homemade yogurt sauce on a bed of fresh lettuce – is great for when you need a power lunch bursting with goodness. You can even add some crunchy croutons on the side too if you're a proper traditionalist.

Packed full of nutrients, super light and in handy bite sized pieces, sushi makes a perfect on the go lunch. Go for some salmon sashimi for something simple but awesome, or opt for Il Sushi Fry, where you'll find fried salmon met with cream cheese and a zingy teriyaki sauce. If you're a bit indecisive, go for the Mix Nigiri-Maki, where you'll get a selection of goodies that's sure to keep you going throughout the day.

Italian cooking can be luxurious and decadent, but it can also be super healthy too – and that's exactly what they rustle up over at Sorry Mama. From salads to sandwiches, they've got loads of great lunch options, but we love their classic Valeria Lasagna. Made from egg, sweet scumorza, pistachios and a pesto sauce – and topped with that iconic golden, bubbled crust – who could resist this guilt-free lunch?

As you can probably guess from the name, Non Solo Toast believe in the all-mighty power of the loaf. In a world where everyone seems to want to cut carbs, they're showing that there's nothing better than homemade bread made from top-quality ingredients. Ditch that dull sandwich and try the fresh fruit and yogurt laden toast, or for a savoury lunch that's low in fat, opt for the aptly named Optimistic toast, where you'll find turkey breast and cheese with grilled zucchini.

Plenty of people need that sugar boost half-way through the day, and if you're clever about where you order from, you won't need to worry about the calories. I Frutti di Gaia not only sell classic, freshly-prepared salads like the Chicken Caesar, Nicoise and Greek, but they do desserts like no one else. Try the fine apple tart for all those natural sugars, or opt for the vegan plum cake, baked fresh this morning, for a healthier treat.
